Danzig is an American heavy metal band formed by former Misfits and Samhain vocalist Glen Danzig in 1988. Danzig was formed after Glen Danzig was recruited to be signed by Rick Rubin and his record label, Def Jam Records after Samhain’s final show. Refusing to sign unless as a package deal with ex-Samhain bassist, Eerie Von, the duo stepped seamlessly from Samhain into Danzig, choosing to go by Glen’s surname as a way to avoid having to change after future lineup changes. Danzig’s music is predominantly heavy metal, but encompasses a slight blues influence, much like one of heavy metal’s earliest pioneers, Black Sabbath. Danzig has continued to tour and release music off and on, most recently celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2018.
