Avenged Sevenfold is a heavy metal band out of Huntington Beach, California. Their first two albums featured a sound more reminiscent of metalcore before evolving into a more straight-forward heavy metal/hard rock band with their major label debut. The group saw continued mainstream success before the passing of their founding drummer James “The Rev” Sullivan. Since then, each Avenged Sevenfold album has seen a different drummer, from Mike Portnoy to, most recently, Bad Religion’s Brooks Wackerman. The band has received numerous Golden God awards, including Best Live Band in 2012 and Best International Band 2017. With a new album forthcoming from the group, and lead singer M. Shadows recovering from vocal surgery, Avenged Sevenfold is primed to continue as one of the most popular metal bands of the 2000s.
