British rock band The Police formed in 1977 in London England. The original band members consisted of Sting as the lead vocalist, bass guitar player, and primary songwriter, Stewart Copeland, drummer, percussionist, and Andy Summers guitar player. The Police are considered one of the first new-wave bands to achieve mainstream success and their style of rock music was influenced by reggae, punk, and Jazz. The Police have received six Grammy awards and two Brit Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
