Cher is often referred to in the media as the Goddess of Pop, a nickname that she did not luck into. Starting her career as a member of the folk duo Sonny and Cher, Cher found massive pop success in 1965 before kicking off her solo career in ’66 with the massively successful single “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down).” Beyond just her music and unmistakable voice, Cher found success as a TV personality, Broadway star, and a movie star (even winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1987) before reviving her music career with a trio of rock-inspired albums in the late 80s, all of which spawned successful singles. In 1998, Cher’s album Believe shook the musical landscape once again. Not only did its title track become the highest selling single by a female artist in the UK, but it kicked off the popularity of the use of autotune, which became massively popular in the early 2000s across all genres. Cher has dabbled in every art imaginable, winning various prestigious awards for many of her projects.
