When Timely Comics started in 1939, nobody could have predicted the levels of success they would eventually reach. They rebranded as Marvel Comics in 1961 to coincide with the launch of The Fantastic Four and other titles created by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and Jack Kirby. As the years went on, Marvel produced some of the most important, most instantly-recognizable comic book heroes of all time, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, the X-Men and many, many more. While Marvel Comics continue to be one of the most universally read comic books in existence, their success on the silver screen has launched them into previously unthinkable success. Starting with 2008’s Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has gone on to shatter box office records and bring some of the greatest heroes to life in ways nobody could have imagined before.
