Lynyrd Skynyrd was discovered in 1973 by producer/musician/songwriter Al Kooper, who signed them to a recording contract. Their first album, released in 1973, was titled Lynyrd Skynyrd and subtitled Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd. It sold over one million albums and included “Free Bird,” a tribute to the late Duane Allman. Their next LP featured another hit, “Southern Man.” Their early success was interrupted by a tragic 1977 plane crash that took the lives of two key members of the band. The group re-formed but never quite regained the momentum they’d lost. You’ll find a nice collection of their band t-shirts and accessories on Rocker Tee Shirts.
